Murray Splits with Coach

Tennis Magazine Murray Splits with Coach

Andy Murray has parted ways with his coach of three years, Miles Maclagan. The move comes after a poor run of form has seen the Scot reach only one final and one semi-final throughout the 2010 season. It’s been almost a year since he last won a title.

The heart of the disagreement seems to be the growing role of Alex Corretja, who was originally hired to help Murray improve his clay court game. However, it seems he has started to infringe on territory that Maclagan considers his, and everybody concerned decided that it’s best if Maclagan left. Murray is famous for his large entourage of coaches and trainers, and up until now there hasn’t been a hint of conflict in the large camp.

“I´ve had a great relationship with Miles over the past two and a half years,” Murray said of the split, “and I want to thank him for his positive contribution to my career. We have had a lot of success and fun working together." He will now remain officially coachless until after the US Open, when he will consider his long-term options.

The Scot is playing in the Farmer’s Classic in Los Angeles this week, and is scheduled to meet Tim Smyczek in his first match.
