Federer, Nadal Cruise to Quarters
Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer both cruised into the quarter-finals of Wimbledon yesterday with easy wins over Jurgen Melzer and Paul-Henri Mattieu respectively. Neither dropped a set, which was clearly a major relief for the Spaniar, who had been pushed to five sets in his previous two matches. Nadal will now go on to face his nemesis Robin Soderling, who needed five sets to knock out David Ferrer.
Elsewhere Andy Roddick was stunned by Yen-Hsun Lu in an epic five set encounter that lasted nearly five hours. The American lost 6-4, 6-7, 6-7, 7-6, 7-9, and Lu will now go on to face Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals. The Serb overcame Lleyton Hewitt in four sets, but looked shaky throughout, breathing heavily and not looking at all comfortable on court.
