Roger Federer put on a dominant display on Centre Court yesterday by crushing French veteran Arnaud Clement 6-2, 6-4, 6-2. It was Federer’s first comfortable match of the Championships, after he was pushed to five sets in his first round match and four sets in his second round encounter. “Right off the bat I got the early break,” Federer said after the match. “Same thing in the second set. From then on, it was a race to the finish line. It was a good and solid match for me, clean, hardly any errors, good on the offensive. I´m very happy with my game right now.”
Lleyton Hewitt and Novak Djokovic also enjoyed straight set wins, but Andy Roddick was again pushed to four sets by German Philipp Kohlschreiber. Marathon man John Isner sadly fell to Thiemo de Bakker, and his heroic exploits of the previous day proved too much for the American. He was barely able to move out on court, and lost 6-0, 6-3, 6-2. Tomas Bedrych survived a major scare against Denis Istomin, and needed five sets to scrape out a narrow 6-7, 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 win.
