Nightmare Wimbledon Draw for Nadal
Rafael Nadal might have enjoyed a dream draw in the French Open last month, but it seems his luck ran out when he was handed a brutal draw for Wimbledon on Friday. He will open his campaign against the talented Japanese youngster Kei Nishikori, and will probably play James Blake in the second round. From the third round onwards, however, he will likely have to beat Ernests Gulbis, John Isner, Robin Soderling and Andy Murray if he is to reach the final.
Roger Federer’s path to the final is a bit easier, but he’ll also have to overcome some stiff competition from the quarter-finals onwards. In the last eight he is expected to meet the in-form Tomas Berdych, who reached the French Open semi-finals this year. In the semi-finals he will probably face last year’s finalist Andy Roddick, the struggling world number three Novak Djokovic or former Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt.
The Championships begin on Monday, and Roger Federer is expected to open proceedings against Alejandro Falla on centre court.
