Becker Edges Towards Title Defense
Defending champion Benjamin Becker is one step closer to retaining his title at the UNICEF Open after defeating fellow German Simon Greul 6-3, 6-1 on Thursday. In order to reach the final her will have to get past a resurgent Janko Tipsarevic, who beat Peter Luczak 6-3, 6-3.
On the women’s side of the draw Justine Henin continued her Wimbledon preparation with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kristina Barrois. Her compatriot and bitter rival Kim Clijsters fared less well, however, going down 7-6, 6-4 to Victoria Azarenka in Eastbourne. Clijsters is trying to regain her form after withdrawing from the French Open due to an injury last month. The tennis world is still waiting for Slam meeting between the two, who have yet to face each other on the big stage since their return from retirement some months ago.
