Ljubicic Falls to Falla in ´s-Hertogenbosch
Top seed Ivan Ljubicic was an early seeded casualty in ´s-Hertogenbosch on Tuesday, losing to Alejandro Falla 6-2, 7-6. The big-serving Croatian was a favourite heading into the tournament, but never looked comfortable on court, losing his serve twice in the opening set.
Over in London, top seed Nicolas Almagro progressed easily by beating Lukasz Kubot 7-5, 7-6. Felicano Lopez, however, had to retire in his match against Britain’s James Ward. The Spaniard, who handed Rafael Nadal his first defeat in months last week at Queen’s Club, was trailing 6-3, 5-4 when he threw in the towel.
On the women’s side of the draw, Svetlana Kuznetsova finally started showing some form by seeing off Alisa Kleybanova 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. Kim Clijsters also started her comeback from injury by beating fellow Belgian Yanina Wickmayer 6-1, 6-1.
