Federer Cruises, Nadal Struggles
Roger Federer increased his winning streak in Halle to 27 matches on Thursday with an effortless 6-1, 6-2 drubbing of Allejandro Falla. The world number two served six aces and saved both break points he faced to race to victory in just 51 minutes. He will now go on to face Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarter-finals.
Over in London Rafael Nadal had a much more difficult time of it, however, and narrowly escaped defeat against unheralded youngster Denis Istomin. After barely winning the first set tie-break, Nadal dropped the second set 6-3, and had to save multiple break points in the third before eventually triumphing 6-4. Also in London, Andy Roddick was dumped out of the tournament by Dudi Sela in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6.
